Juice Jab: Juicing the holiday “eew” away {Review}

OK, this is a bit late, I know: The holidays were over a month ago! Still, better late than never!

I’ve never juiced before. The whole idea freaked me out the first time I heard about it, and I’ve avoided the idea since. Well, until I felt the need to actually juice for real! Haha!

Don’t be scared when you hear the word “juicing” or “detox.” It really isn’t all that bad — just look at the pretty bottles, from Juice Jab. They were kind enough to send me their products — one Jab pack each for me and my husband.

It was Mia of  A Matter of Taste who introduced me to the Juice Jab owners, and I am grateful for it. (Thanks, Mia!) My husband and I actually scheduled this cleanse for right after our Singapore holiday in mid-January. We figured that with all the eating we’d do in Singapore (and the holiday eating from December!) that we’d need a cleanse.

When I asked Ton about doing the cleanse, he said yes. How hard could it be, right? We were both used to fasting anyway, especially since we did it often in the past, while we were in our active church days. So, we went for the Moderate Juice Jab. This meant that Ton and I would replace two meals with 2 juice bottles per meal, for 3 consecutive days. During the times we could eat meals, we only ate salads, fruits and vegetables. (Read: Not easy! Haha!)

Our Juice Jab experience

It was harder than I thought, but not impossible.

The headache issue: I admit though, Ton and I ate protein (1/4 chicken breast each) with our salad dinner on the second day, because we were both getting headaches, obviously due to the lack of protein. (OK, people, don’t kill us; we’re human, and parents of a three year old ball of energy.) I was torn between eating the protein and pressing on eating just fruits and veg, but I couldn’t take it. Sorry!

Myths dispelled: Contrary to what I often thought about juicing, you won’t be going to the bathroom every five minutes. (TMI alert: On the first day, you’ll pee a lot!) So you don’t have to worry about doing the Jab when you need to step out of the house for a quick errand: You won’t get a bum tummy. You will, however, feel the cleansing effect of the juice.

Lesson learned: Start with the Mild level Jab first! I realize we should have only skipped one meal, not two while starting off on this juice detox. No worries, we’re better prepared for next time! If the same thing happens to you, just modify your jab to suit your needs. Looking back, I believe we could have started with the Mild Jab, seeing as we had not been fasting for a while!

Results: Very positive, actually! I lost two pounds at the end of the weekend jab. Both Ton and I felt lighter. As I mentioned earlier, you will fill the cleansing effect of the juice quite noticeably, but you won’t feel weak or depleted of strength.

On your first order of Juice Jab, you get this nifty cold bag. It comes with freeze packs so that you can take your Juice Jab with you on the go. I took it with me to a meeting with my friend Racquel, on the second day of my Jab. This is great because you can use the bag for your subsequent juice detoxes.

Would I do it again? Yes! After this experience, we’re looking to juice at least once a month. It would be great to also get a juicer, but if we’re pressed for time, at least we know that Juice Jab is here, and just an email/call/text away! Thank you, Juice Jab, for letting us experience our first venture into juicing!

  1. Cool! We have a juicer at home and every once in a while my parents will go into cleanse/detox mode. Sometimes we join them, sometimes we opt not to because it really does take a lot of effort if you make the juice at home. I love that Juice Jab makes it so convenient to juice. I’m really pushing myself towards living a healthier life, and this would be great for me right now. :)

    PS Joining the contest because I really want to win. Haha! Happy hearts day to you and Ton and little boy V! :)

  2. Hey Marts, I am glad your review is positive. I feel the same way, it brought me a lot of good and would not mind doing it again. If only there is a Juice Jab here .. but then again, I can always go home :-)
