It’s been about four years since I’ve baked anything sweet from my own kitchen. Yes, that’s right: four years! That means the last time I baked was just after my wedding!
This year, I decided to get back into the baking groove, particularly during the Christmas season. And what better time to get my baking mojo back, right? After all, it’s the time for sweet treats and good eating.
I’m not totally “there” yet, though. When I bake a New York-style cheesecake, then I would have really gotten my groove back. Until then, I’m making cookies — like these, which I’ve been giving away to friends this season.

I never scrimp on my Christmas cookies. I use premium, unsalted butter, no substitutes, simply because it tastes SO much better!
The cookies in my Christmas cookie gift jars are chocolate chip, my favorite kind. The recipe isn’t original, but it’s my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe, the Original NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Chocolate Chip Cookie version. I follow it to the letter, except for the walnuts. (Not really a fan of cookies with nuts!) Since it’s so easy to make (and not expensive!), I decided to give these away as Christmas gifts to some of my good friends.
If you’re still in need of last-minute gift ideas, this one is super easy, thoughtful and looks great, too. I bought generic glass jars from the department store, and used my stash of recycled gift ribbon as embellishments. I just had to slap on a personalized gift tag and note before delivering these to the happy recipients: Instand happiness in a jar!
If you want the cookie recipe, the original one may be found on the Very Best Baking site (a Nestle website). It’s so easy, you’ll be abe to bake cookies all year round, I promise.
What are your Christmas giveaways? Are you doing any baking like me?

Love! Adorable/sweet packaging! I wish I knew how to bake cookies from scratch. Baking doesn’t like me so pastillas de leche is the safest for us to make and share =)
Great looking cookies and jars, Martine! I enjoy looking at the pictures again and again haha.
I honestly don’t give gifts to grownups anymore
I just give to their kids, mostly books and simple and inexpensive toys. I used to give away biscotti though, when I could still spend time in the kitchen without anyone hollering for me. I’m dreaming of baking again when my youngest is a bit bigger.

They look delicious, Martine! I wish I know how to bake
You got to taste them na, you and Ches were among my first recipients! Did you like them? Cute the tin box, no? (The supplier ran out of the little tin soldier box that I gave you, so jars took their place for this second wave of cookies.)
