We are moving out of our place in two weeks. I asked my mom for tips on how to move out effectively seeing that she is an expert at it. (We moved a lot while we were growing up.) So she drew up a moving plan for me, which I’m going to post here. I think it’s rather helpful!
Moving Out Checklist
1st week: The first week, it’s good to move the things that we seldom use and those that are in storage. In our household, these comprise the following items per room or area in the house:
Extra dishes and serving ware
Cook books and recipes
Appliances (seldom used)
Large pots and pans
Ironing board and flat iron
Living / Dining area:
La-Z Boy chair
Bedroom & Bath:
Paintings, wall hangings
2nd Week: This week, we plan to be able to move everything out – ourselves included! This is when all the other stuff will get hauled out. We’ll need to camp out at my mom’s place for a couple of days while we sort all the furniture and appliances out.
Kitchen island unit
Dining room table
This list seems simple enough as it targets all the main aspects of each room in our household. We are able to live with just a few things, but I think that in the new place, we will be more inclined to make an effort with regard to decorating and fixing up. I am quite excited about the prospect!
We’re just approaching the impending move one day at a time now. Today, our kitchen cabinets in the new apartment were completed. Next Monday, some general cleaning needs to be done to clear the place of all debris from the renovations. We’ll add a coat of paint to the master’s bedroom, and buy curtain rods for each of the two bathrooms. Many things still need to be done, but I have a feeling we’ll only think of more as soon as we move in.
In some ways, I kind of feel like Noah, or at least what I think Noah felt like, when he was packing up the ark. I’m pretty sure he left no animal behind! I hope that I stay sane amidst the stress of moving. I am thankful at least to have come upon a method within the madness.
